Abbey ruins of the Cistercian nunnery Stadtroda
The Cistercian nunnery Stadtroda - A ruin of the former Cistercian nunnery in Roda. The monastery owes its origins to the Lords of Lobdeburg, who, after moving from Franconia to the local area in 1160, established a new house monastery here in the town of Roda (Stadtroda since 1925), also as a burial place for their family, and founded the monastery for nuns of the Cistercian order in 1240. It was dissolved in 1534 as a result of the Reformation in Thuringia.
In the summer months, choir concerts and summer theater take place in the impressive setting. Visits are possible all year round.
