Meuselwitz coal railroad
Meuselwitz coal railroad
The Kohlebahnen e.V. association operates a railroad between Meuselwitz in Thuringia and Regis-Breitingen in Saxony on a rail network of approx. 15 km, which preserves the traditions of lignite mining.
Where lignite was once transported to briquette factories and power stations, the coal railroad now runs as a museum railroad. Our guests enjoy the 15-kilometre journey in closed or open carriages through the beautiful Schnaudertal valley and the Kammerforst forest between Meuselwitz and Regis-Breitingen.
Technical Museum
A large number of trains, equipment, installations and exhibits from the tradition of one hundred years of mining and railroad history can be seen on the club grounds of the Meuselwitz railroad station and in our engine shed.
Our association works hard to preserve it and make history accessible to our guests. - Experience history!
Model train exhibition
In small gauge, towns and villages along the Meuselwitz-Altenburg railroad line are shown with special track details. A further highlight is the train operation and the moving models showing „From lignite mining to refining“ around Espenhain. - Marvel and learn!
The exhibition is open on all Sundays with scheduled trips on the coal train from approx. 13:15 to 14:30.
Individual tours are also possible by prior arrangement.
