KULTURGLAS Christian Sachs
Glass art blower Christian Sachs is a multi-faceted artist who is constantly gaining new insights and questioning time-honored traditions. He lives in Masserberg, where he has a workshop and a store selling sculptures, glass jewelry and home accessories. Presentations and studio talks are held there regularly. Visitors can also lend a hand themselves, whether during the subsequent ball blowing or in individually bookable one-to-one workshops. What fascinates the artist about his work? Glass is a changeable raw material whose many facets always challenge him to concentrate on the essentials in order to harmonize form and function. It is important to the art glassblower that glass art is not only beautiful to look at, but can also be used. To achieve this, he experimented with heat-resistant Duran glass, developed by Otto Schott in Jena in 1895. The crystal-clear structure and resistance to environmental influences opened up new possibilities for him in manual glass processing. For a touch of romance in everyday life, Sachs invented the "philosopher's candlestick with tealight" in fireproof glass. His glass sculpture entitled "The Dignity of the Other" won the audience award at the Gera Höher Biennale in 2021. The glass winding around a stele reflects the fragility of human dignity. Because giving things a deeper meaning, a message, is what drives Christian Sachs. His latest Duran glass sculpture "The Scream" could be admired in Gera in 2023. (Text: Leika Kommunikation)
