Art and mustard mill Kleinhettstedt
Art and mustard mill Kleinhettstedt
If you cycle along the Ilmtal cycle path, you will notice the imposing half-timbered building in Kleinhettstedt. It houses a flour mill from the 16th century. The mill has been owned by the Morgenroth family since 1732 and is now managed by the 9th generation.
The history of the flour mill from its beginnings to 1990 can still be viewed in its entirety in the old technical museum. Guided tours are available by appointment.
From 1990, the mustard mill, which had already flourished around 1830, was revived. The technology was available and Friedrich Morgenroth discovered the recipes while rummaging through old files. Anyone who visits the mill today is amazed at how little space is actually needed for mustard production in the huge building. Since 1999, mustard has been produced as it was back then.
In the „Mühlenladen“ you have the opportunity to taste and buy the Kleinhettstedter mustard range.
Today, the old rye mill building houses a large vacation apartment that is particularly suitable for families.
From the farm you can reach the restaurant „Zum Mühlenwirt“ with excellent regional and national cuisine and, of course, dishes that include Kleinhettstedter mustard. The „Senfmühlentenne“ has found its place above the restaurant in the former hayloft. In a rustic atmosphere, you can buy regional specialties, florals and handicrafts and enjoy coffee and homemade cakes.
