Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp Memorial
Mittelbau-Dora Concentration Camp Memorial
Mittelbau-Dora is an example of the history of forced labor in concentration camps and the relocation of armaments production underground during the Second World War. More than 60,000 people from almost every country in Europe, above all
from the Soviet Union, Poland and France were forced to perform forced labor for the German armaments industry at Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp between 1943 and 1945. One in three of them died.
Today, Mittelbau-Dora is a European place of learning and remembrance. Relics in the former camp grounds and in the tunnel bear witness to the crimes, but also to the changing ways of dealing with history.
Temporary exhibitions encourage a critical examination of the past. The permanent exhibition, which opened in 2006, presents Mittelbau-Dora not only as a model case of forced labor and underground relocation, but also as an example of the close integration of the concentration camps into German society.
