The rural municipality of Buttstädt was formed on 01.01.2019 from the localities of Buttstädt, Ellersleben, Eßleben-Teutleben, Großbrembach, Guthmannshausen, Hardisleben, Kleinbrembach, Mannstedt, Olbersleben and Rudersdorf.

Looking towards the future, the rural community offers a variation of picturesque nature, places steeped in history and places with a lot of charm. Only here does steppe meadow meet a BUGA outdoor location, a traditional horse market meet an earthworm reporter in fiber optic expansion, and the ICE Gänsebachtal bridge with a bridge building award meet a Wohlklanghaus and reservoir.

With its nearly 6600 inhabitants, the municipality is located in the eastern part of the Sömmerda district in Thuringia and borders Saxony-Anhalt.
