Johann Sebastian Bach attended the Latin school for several years, as did Martin Luther before him. The 16th century building now houses a grammar school. A plaque commemorates the school days of both men. In the immediate vicinity of the school is the „Alte Münze“, a mint and residence where the Eisenach organist Johann Christoph Bach lived.
