Leutenberg
Leutenberg
Traveling from Saalfeld towards Bad Lobenstein, one of the most romantic and scenic mountain valleys in Thuringia, the Sormitztal, begins 17 km upstream. This region is a popular recreation and excursion area. Embedded in a valley basin, Leutenberg, the "town of the seven valleys" (valleys: Hüttengrund, Sormitztal, Lemnitztal, Ilmtal, Herschdorfer Tal, Kalkgrubental, Hinktal), lies 302 meters above sea level.
The historic town center of Leutenberg is home to a wonderful market square ensemble and enticing shopping opportunities. Anyone who has let their gaze wander over the lovingly preserved old town and its surroundings from the numerous vantage points will have lost their heart to Leutenberg. An extensive network of hiking trails in Leutenberg and the surrounding area invites you to go on rewarding hikes. The town of Leutenberg has been welcoming guests since 1884. Not least because of this, it was confirmed as one of 7 model towns in the Free State of Thuringia in 1995 and received the Federal Award for "Environment and Tourism" in 1997. Leutenberg offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit every budget: hotels, guesthouses, inns and private accommodation, traditional restaurants with the proverbial "Thuringian hospitality". And of course there are regional delicacies such as Thuringian dumplings and Rostbratwurst, which are famous beyond the borders of the state.
