South of Weimar, an authentic miniature manor house from Goethe's time awaits with a top-class program: Kochberg Palace. The former country residence of Goethe's Liebe Frau von Stein, with its park and theater, is one of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar's particularly charming castle ensembles. The festively designed and carefully restored theater of the von Stein family from the late 18th century is a unique gem in the world. At the annual summer festival from May to October, opera and theater performances, chamber concerts and readings by renowned artists attract enthusiastic audiences from all over the world to the classicist temple of music in the countryside, which is part of the European Route of Historic Theatres. The program offers a very special experience: works from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods are performed here in an authentic historical theater, largely in accordance with historical performance practice, and can be experienced at close quarters. Two classical events complete the annual program at Kochberg Castle: the Kochberg Garden Pleasure (a garden festival) in May and the Kochberg St. Nicholas Market in December.
