Liszt Monument Weimar
Liszt Monument Weimar
As court kapellmeister, Franz Liszt established a musical center in Weimar that radiated throughout Europe. The piano virtuoso significantly changed the musical life of the city. Among other things, he conducted the world premiere of Wagner's "Lohengrin." The life-size monument was designed by the Munich sculptor Hermann Hahn and executed in white Carrara marble. In 1902 it was erected in the Park an der Ilm, his former home (now a museum) is not far away - directly at the southern entrance to the park. The plateau in front of the monument bears an ornamental pavement of colored natural stone.
