The building was located directly on the then city wall, which ran in the course of Marktstraße - Schlossgasse and was later moved to the south (Puschkinstraße), because the present market was to be included. In 1542 the woad and cloth merchant Nicolaus Burser is mentioned as the owner. In 1840 a very famous man in Weimar moved in, Goethe's secretary Johann Peter Eckermann. In 1919, the building was purchased by Wilhelm Lösch, the man who gave his name to today's "Löschhaus".
