Locomotive shed of the Mühlhäuser tramway
Locomotive shed of the Mühlhäuser tramway
The hearts of lovers of old motor vehicles will beat faster when they discover these historical treasures behind the gate of the old locomotive shed: a specimen of the former streetcar, a mobile brewery, a Garant fire department, a Garant bus, a Framo delivery van, a BMW-DA2, a VW Beetle and a Barkas. Polished to a high shine, the historic beauties stand ready as if they were just waiting to go out.
These rare veteran cars have been collected, lovingly restored and cared for by the members of the Verein zur Förderung handwerklicher Traditionen e.V. (Association for the Promotion of Handicraft Traditions).
A special gem of the collection is above all the original tramcar with the number 43, which commuted through the city until 1969. The Mühlhausen streetcar was the pride of the citizens.
The traditional association, founded in 1995, sees an important task in collecting, restoring, maintaining and occasionally driving veteran motor vehicles. The association likes to show the results of its work to the public. Every year, it organizes a veteran car tour through the beautiful landscape of central Germany. Not only Mühlhausen gems can be admired. The vintage cars now come from all over Germany.
In addition, the locomotive shed is open to interested guests every year on the Day of the Open Monument.
