Lucka is a small town in Altenburger Land with around 3,700 inhabitants and is located in the border triangle of Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. The settlement of the area can be traced back to the most recent Stone Age, around 5000 to 2500 BC. An old cemetery and burial remains from both the Bronze Age and the Germanic period have been discovered. Lucka went down in history on May 31, 1307. The memorable Battle of Swabia took place here on the battlefield near Lucka, which made the Wettin dynasty, represented by Frederick the Free, independent of the House of Habsburg for all time. In the past, people mainly made a living from agriculture and crafts. Tanners and shoemakers in particular settled down. Between 1800 and 1850, there were up to sixty shoemakers in the village. At the end of the last century, there were still twenty. As a result, Lucka's shoemaking trade became known far and wide, giving the town the nickname "Schusterlucke".

The largest employers in the region until a few years ago, the mining industry, the Böhlen chemical plant and the machine factory in Meuselwitz, reacted to the changed economic situation after 1989 with radical job cuts. The prospects for the mining and industrial workers' town of Lucka then changed significantly. As a result, the settlement and promotion of smaller commercial and craft businesses came to the fore. The largest employer is currently Wellpappenwerk Lucka GmbH. Over the last few decades, lignite mining has resulted in the creation of open-cast mining pits and dumps. The high dumps have since been forested and some of the remaining holes have developed into popular swimming lakes. The nearby Luckaer Forst and Kammerforst forests form the green backdrop to this typically flat landscape. One of the most important sights in Lucka is the St. Pankratius parish church. At a stately height of 56 meters, it stands in the middle of the town on a triangular market square. The Wettin Fountain, Lucka's landmark, stands directly in front of the church. The Lucka painter and sculptor Prof. Reinhold Carl created the fountain basin on wide granite steps, which is flanked by side benches and brightly decorated pillars.
