Aviation Museum Flugwelt Altenburg-Nobitz
Aviation Museum Flugwelt Altenburg-Nobitz
At over 100 years old, the airfield at Leinawald near Altenburg is one of the oldest still in operation in the world.
The Flugwelt Altenburg Nobitz e.V. association, founded in 2004, set itself the task of presenting this history in a historic building at the airfield. The result was a museum.
In addition to the historical development, many topics related to aviation are vividly presented. Numerous exhibits such as aircraft parts, equipment, uniforms, dioramas and models from the various eras fill the rooms of our museum. But it's not always just about technology. Display boards provide interesting facts about aviation personalities, aerial reconnaissance, aircraft painting, etc.
In the outdoor area, visitors can experience 14 original aircraft up close, including rarities such as the Breguet Atlantic and the MiG-21SMT. The functional model of the „Würzburg“ tracking device with original parts is also unique.
The traditional summer festival, the „Flugwelt bei Nacht“ festival of lights and the end-of-year party are very popular.
Our museum team cordially invites you to enjoy a snack in our café and will be happy to answer your questions.
The Flugwelt Altenburg-Nobitz is the only museum of its kind in Thuringia.
Attention: Additional opening hours on Thursday from 10 am to 3 pm during the summer vacation!
