Mahlschatz Thuringian jewelry

The term "Mahlschatz" was once a familiar term for marriageable Thuringian women. Especially in rural areas, it was used to describe the bridal jewelry of the future wife. Today's jewelry designers in Tabarz did not want to simply accept the fact that this sometimes extremely skillfully crafted jewelry was increasingly forgotten over the course of time. Extensive research, especially in the local history rooms of our region, not only made it possible to find ancient originals, but also to reconstruct lost individual pieces.

In the "Original Thuringian Jewelry" show workshop, you can now marvel at antique and replica pieces of jewelry. There are also many interesting facts about the customs and traditions of a time well over 150 years ago.

Another section of the exhibition is dedicated to the history of the jewelry trade in our home district. Here we encounter a once developed branch of industry that became increasingly important after 1945, reached its economic and artistic peak around 1980, but has ceased to exist since 1992. Original documents and pieces of jewelry from those years make it possible to relive half a century of arts and crafts in the district of Gotha.

The "Original Thuringian Jewelry" show workshop sees itself as the custodian of this heritage and has felt vindicated in this claim for fifteen years now. May many more years follow!
