Margaretha Reichardt House
Margaretha Reichardt House
The residential and weaving house of Erfurt Bauhaus artist Margaretha Reichardt, built in 1939, has been a technical monument since 1987. After studying in Dessau, the artist ran a hand-weaving workshop from 1933, trained over 50 weavers and imparted an intellectual and cultural education in the spirit of the Bauhaus. The workshop in the basement houses functioning handlooms, on which Reichardt student Christine Leister today demonstrates the art of hand weaving and produces fabrics based on historical models.
Visits to the house and the workshop are possible by appointment. Groups of 5 people or more are requested to book in advance.
