Marientor
Marientor
Naumburg's Marientor is one of the very rare late medieval city gates that is still completely preserved with the barbican (often referred to as the "Fanghof"). The oldest part of the building, the mighty gate tower, dates back to the second half of the 14th century, gatehouse and barbican were added in the 15th century and received their present appearance at the beginning of the 16th century. In the numerous small rooms of the gate, which were used as a prison at times in the past, today's visitors can find an informative exhibition about the historical fortifications of Naumburg. From the tower of the gate there is a magnificent view of the silhouette of the city. In the summer months, the Torhof is used for theater and music events. During this time it is partially accessible only for the visitors of these events. However, this does not apply to the tower climb, which should not be missed!
