Mengersgereuth-Hämmern
Mengersgereuth-Hämmern is a district of the municipality of Frankenblick in the Sonneberg district of Thuringia. There was previously a municipality of the same name, which was formed on April 1, 1923 and merged with the municipality of Effelder-Rauenstein on January 1, 2012 to form the new municipality.
Mengersgereuth-Hämmern is picturesquely embedded in wooded mountain ridges, far away from noisy road traffic, but easy to reach by bus, car and the South Thuringia Railway. The village with its approx. 2900 inhabitants stretches over a length of 5 km in the Effelder valley and has a total area of approx. 9.8 km².
Walks or hikes in the valley and on the mountain heights around the village surrounded by dense coniferous and mixed forests or up to the Rennsteig, the legendary high trail of the Thuringian Forest, offer our guests rest and relaxation in the healthy forest air.
You too will be surprised by the soothing tranquillity in the romantic valleys and the wide range of shady forest paths in the midst of unspoiled nature. Enjoy an overwhelming panoramic view from the mountain heights with good visibility as far as the Upper Franconian countryside and the Rhön.
In winter, passionate skiers will find the best conditions for extended ski hikes on the surrounding mountains from 690 m to 844 m on 50 km of groomed ski trails. For alpine experts, the slopes in the Steinach ski arena are ideally located just 4 km from Mengersgereuth-Hämmern.
You can treat yourself to culinary delights in the numerous inns in the municipality. After a hearty meal, you also have the option of spending the night in one of the guesthouses or hotels to recharge your batteries for the next day.
