Drill chair monument
Drill chair monument
The "Stone chronicle" of Frauenwald. The Frauenwald landmark greets you right at the start of the village. The monument at the drilling rig was inaugurated on July 25, 1937 with great participation from the population of Frauenwald. It was built according to the idea of the then mayor Alfred Robert Kahl, the plans of the architect Liebermann from Königsee and the sculptor Hermann Keck from Saalfeld. The history of Frauenwald from 1218 to 1918 is presented on three sides. The monument is crowned by a capital red deer looking towards the village. It is accompanied by a capercaillie, an owl and a bird of prey, which are placed on the edges of the sides.
Where does the name "Bohrstuhl" come from?
The term drill rig originates from the manufacture of wooden pipes for water pipes.
Not far from the entrance to Frauenwald, opposite today's Waldcafe Lenkgrund, there was a boring mill in the 17th and 18th centuries. Depending on the purpose, a good 25 cm thick round timber of 2 to 4 m in length was used. The logs were attached to a four-legged frame (the drill rig). There were two drilling methods: either the drill was inserted into the slowly rotating log or the wood drill was turned into the fixed log. Found wooden tubes can be viewed in the Heimatstube.
