Taubach mill and weir
Taubach mill and weir
The Weimar district of Taubach is the oldest documented mill site in Thuringia - the first mill in the small village on the Ilm was documented as early as 1120. Today, the building and the water wheel are listed buildings, but are an ideal and popular resting point for active people along the Ilm Valley Cycle Path. Grist was ground here until 1990, but after extensive restoration work, electricity can now be generated at the idyllic location in the middle of the landscape conservation area. The half-timbered building of the mill is now used privately after partial demolition and rebuilding.
