Ranis Castle Museum
Ranis Castle Museum
In the museum's exhibition, visitors are presented with the essentials of nature and history of the landscape around Ranis. The history of the castle and its owners is another theme of the exhibitions. Armor, weapons, precious period furniture and much more take visitors back to past centuries. A gallery presents works by artists from the region.
The museum's seismological cabinet is probably unique, created in cooperation with the nearby large-scale earthquake recording station in Moxa (branch of the Geodynamic Institute of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena). Original seismographs of various types and years of construction illustrate the development of scientific equipment in this field. The origin and distribution of earthquakes are explained.
With the keep as a lookout tower and the other tour areas, the castle dungeon in the Hunger Tower, the large castle cellars, a castle kitchen and the Ilsen Cave, the visit is an experience not only for experts, but also for the whole family.
