Museum Sleigh Barn
Museum Sleigh Barn
The Traditional Sledge and Bobsleigh Club Ilmenau e.V. was founded in April 2012. The founding members are former Ilmenau athletes, including Olympic, world and European champions, as well as private and commercial friends and sponsors.
Ilmenau has a great and long tradition in sledging and bobsleighing. Olympic champions Wolfgang Scheidel, Horst Hörnlein, Hans Rinn, Jens Müller, Stefan Krauße, Jan Behrendt and Andre Lange all began their careers in Ilmenau.
With numerous national and international titles in all age groups, Ilmenau has developed into a stronghold of sledding. Ilmenau sports enthusiasts have also set standards in the development of equipment over the decades.
The presentation of Ilmenau's toboggan and bobsleigh history as well as the exhibition of an extensive private collection of sledges is intended to document the diverse development from simple children's and farmers' sledges to various steering sledges and today's racing sledges and bobsleighs in a museum.
This Sled and bobsleigh museumthe "Sleigh barn", has been run by the traditional association Schlitten und Bob Ilmenau e.V. since 2013.
