Natural bridge Weimar
Natural bridge Weimar
After the first additions to the park, Carl August in particular pushed ahead with the embellishments. In view of the onset of exaggerated idealization, Goethe made sure that the "embellishment of the landscape" did not get out of hand in the Weimar park. Seven construction stages of the natural bridge have been preserved - in the past decades, smooth white wooden beams dominated the picture. Following severe damage caused by flooding in 2013, the conservationists at the Klassik Stiftung Weimar decided to restore the appearance of the Carl August era. Now the bridge once again has a billet railing that resembles intertwined branches.
