The nature conservation information center in the Waldhaus recreation area near Greiz was set up by the Ostthüringer Ornithologen Greiz e.V. association in the winter of 2003/2004 and opened on May 1, 2004. It is expanded and updated annually. Its numerous exhibits provide lasting insights into our local nature and environment.

Until the end of December 2015, the members of the Ostthüringer Ornithologen Greiz e.V. association not only participated in numerous activities to protect nature and the environment, but also supported campaigns such as the forest youth games organized annually by the Weida forestry office and the forest experience days organized by the "Globus" market chain.
After the dissolution of the Ostthüringer Ornithologen Greiz e.V. association at the end of 2015, NABU Gera-Greiz e.V. took over the management of the nature conservation station, which was ceremoniously reopened on May 1, 2016 under the direction of NABU Gera-Greiz e.V.

A visit to the Waldhaus nature conservation information center complements the curriculum and can be perfectly integrated into the lessons - biological knowledge is vividly conveyed both in the building and in the outdoor area.
