The small village (210 m above sea level, 54 inhabitants), located approx. 1.5 km upstream from Kolkwitz in the direction of Langenschade, was first mentioned in a document in 1445. Its place name refers to a new settlement which, like the village of Weißbach, was probably established later than the neighboring villages during the progressive clearing of the heath forest in the 12th or 13th century.

In addition to agriculture, the milling industry played an important role. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, the water-powered mills disappeared with industrialization. Only a few buildings remained.

The Schusterstieg, once the shortest route between Rudolstadt and Pößneck over the heath, runs through Naundorf.
