Neptune Fountain Weimar
Neptune Fountain Weimar
It is the third replica of the Neptune figure, originally a lion stood there: the heraldic animal of Weimar. The first fountain, which replaced the modest old fountain in 1570, cost 500 guilders at the time. The large fountain stands on the northern edge of Weimar's market square and is the oldest fountain in Weimar. The god of the sea is depicted on it with a three-pronged spear, symbolizing power and strength. It is surrounded by Weimar's oldest pharmacy, the town hall with its tourist information office, the Cranach House and the historic town hall.
