The New Gehlberg hut is located on the 978 m high Schneekopf in the Thuringian Forest. The Rennsteig - historic ridge and border trail and the oldest long-distance hiking trail in Germany - is located in the immediate vicinity of the Schneekopf.

The hut is the The highest, managed mining lodge and hiking hostel Thuringia and an ideal destination for hikers, cyclists and skiers, as well as Rennsteig hikers and Rennsteig cyclists (Bed+Bike).

The rustic Restaurant offers space for 40 people. Hikers can warm up and relax by the crackling fire in the fireplace after a long day's (winter) hiking. The hosts take care of your physical well-being with regional dishes and Hut specialties. The Sun terrace has another 50 places to linger.

The Hiking hostel is equipped with multi-bed rooms and a common room. Reservations are made by bed (not by room).
