Niederkrossen (175 m above sea level, 242 inhabitants) is located east of Uhlstädt at the confluence of the Hüttener Bach and the Saale, the smaller district Krebsmühle at the Krebsbach coming from Friedebach. It was first mentioned in 1083 as Crozne (possibly derived from the Slavic "krosn" = loom, fishing net). In the 13th century, linen weaving and fishing were demonstrably widespread here. In 1660 no less than 6 landowner families of the von Eichenberg family lived here, hence the name "Herrenkrossen". The castle of the former manor was classified as "no longer worth preserving" in 1985 due to its dilapidation and was demolished. The church dates back to 1408 and the bell of the former church of the deserted village of Töpfersdorf is also located here. The ruins of Töpfersdorf on the heath form a popular destination for excursions. Culturally active are the rural women's association, the carnival club and the sports club.
