Nietzsche Archive - van de Velde's Gesamtkunstwerk for Friedrich Nietzsche

Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche moved into the "Silberblick" villa in 1897 to take in and care for her sick brother. The philosopher died here on August 25, 1900. After purchasing the house in 1902, Nietzsche's sister commissioned the Belgian architect Henry van de Velde to redesign and refurnish the rooms on the first floor. Today, this work is considered one of his most successful creations. The Nietzsche archive contains numerous documents, photos and mementos of the philosopher. An exhibition documents the history of the house and its role in the Nietzsche cult of National Socialism.
