In the summer of 1858, Nietzsche's mother Franziska Nietzsche moved with her two children Friedrich and Elisabeth into the house No. 355, today Weingarten 18. She had rented a bright, spacious apartment on the upper floor. In 1878 she bought the house and stayed here until the end of her life. After she died in 1897, the house was sold by her daughter.
The Nietzsche House in Naumburg has been open to the public since 1994. A permanent exhibition documents the life and work of the philosopher, while the house library set up in the exhibition rooms gives visitors the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Nietzsche's work.
