The northern Gera floodplain is a large complex of parks that meanders along the Gera for around 4.5 km from Erfurt city center to Gispersleben. The large local recreation area was extensively redesigned for the 2021 Federal Garden Show and equipped with many inviting relaxation, sports and play facilities for all ages.

Starting in the south with the Nordpark, which now includes a modern skate park, a multifunctional playing field and playgrounds for different age groups in addition to the Nordbad swimming pool and plenty of space for sunbathing and walking, the extended, barrier-free path continues to the "Klärchen". This name comes from the location at the former sewage treatment plant. Here, in addition to other playgrounds, there is a volleyball court, public barbecue areas and a large terrace area that leads down to the Geraufer.

The park ribbon continues through the Warschauer Straße park and the Rieth residential area park, where you can discover wildflower meadows and fruit trees as well as play areas and green spaces.

The subsequent Geraaue section forms the largest area of the complex at around 22 hectares. The new floodplain pond stands out here in particular, with a wonderful view of it from the new bridge. In the northern part of the complex are the attractively redesigned and adapted baseball field and the Geraaue sports field.

The park strip is completed by the park at the former thermal power station and Kilianipark. The inclusive playground and the outdoor fitness facility are particularly worth a visit here.

The large park complex offers excellent walking opportunities, varied facilities that invite you to linger and lots of greenery in the immediate vicinity of the city center.
