The Rodishain district of the town of Nordhausen is situated in a scenic location on the northern border of Thuringia, close to the medieval town of Stolberg in Saxony-Anhalt. The first settlers are said to have settled in the Rodishain area more than 800 years ago. The village was founded as a forest settlement of Stolberg and a branch of the Walkenried monastery. At that time, the inhabitants lived from silver and copper mining and Rodishain was part of the Count of Stolberg's mining area until the end of the 15th century. Today, the oldest building is the Philippi Jacobi church from 1488.
