The Anselmipoterne, a vaulted and covered path, led from the inside of the fortress to the Anselm Gate. The first buttress of the fortifications, with a straight course to the gate, was probably already built with the bastioned town wall around 1620. In 1828/29, two buttress sections that were offset in position were largely rebuilt. The lower part of the buttress was moved further to the south to prevent direct fire from penetrating it.
