Greiz Upper Castle
Greiz Upper Castle
The Upper Castle is a widely known, architecturally valuable and striking cultural monument that captivates every observer.
The landmark of the town of Greiz is the Upper Castle, situated on a 50 m high hill in the middle of the town. Since November 2010, the south wing of the castle has housed the museum on four floors with the permanent exhibition "From the Land of the Bailiffs to the Principality of Reuss of the Older Line" (with 3D film). The special feature of the museum is the combination of the unique architectural history of the 12th to 19th centuries with history that can be experienced interactively - "a museum you can touch and participate in". You can determine the weight of a knight's helmet, illuminate the model of the medieval castle complex or let the "Heinrichs" speak. The elevator takes you on a journey through the centuries. Travel through the building history of the Upper Castle on a skateboard. Admire the Romanesque double chapel and immerse yourself in the world of the Reussians during the 3D film "Glanz und Gloria der Reussen". Experience Reussian and Greiz history - in a whole new way. At Greiz Upper Castle, history is not gray and boring, but a great experience.
