The districts of Oberkrossen (located on the right bank of the Saale, 180 m above sea level, 140 inhabitants) and Kleinkrossen (located on the left bank of the Saale, 178 m above sea level, 49 inhabitants) formed an independent municipality until they were incorporated into Uhlstädt in 1922. They were first mentioned in a document in 1071 as Crozne.

In addition to farming and fishing, rafting was once an important source of income.

The Krossener Anger, where the Uhlstadt rafting festivals are still held every odd-numbered year, used to be one of the largest rafting sites on the upper and middle Saale as far as Camburg, and the former "Zur Linde" inn was a well-known rafting restaurant.

Oberkrossen is characterized by the sawmill. There is also a house built by Hans Georg von Kochberg in 1613, which was completely reconstructed in 1995.

The sawmill is classified as a technical monument with its old steam engine and the gate that is still in operation.
