Obermaßfeld-Grimmenthal is a municipality in the south of Thuringia that belongs to the Dolmar-Salzbrücke administrative community. The municipality consists of the districts of Obermaßfeld and Grimmenthal, which are located in the Werra Valley to the south-east of Meiningen. Obermaßfeld was first mentioned in 837 as Mahesfeld and was an important customs post in the county of Henneberg. Grimmenthal was a place of pilgrimage with a miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary, which was destroyed after the Reformation. Today Grimmenthal is a Railroad junction on the Werrabahn and the Neudietendorf-Ritschenhausen railroad line. The municipality has around 1250 inhabitants and an area of 5.59 km2.
