Until the middle of the last century, ore mining and cloth-making flourished in Bad Lobenstein and the surrounding area. For example, the Bavarian troops were clothed in Lobenstein uniform cloth. Ammonia, which was obtained from human urine, was needed to finish the cloth. The nickname and nickname "Lommesteener Fässleseecher" originates from this time. Maintaining this tradition, a figure built into the town hall "does his business" several times a day directly on the market square to the amusement of visitors. The historic market in Bad Lobenstein with its numerous stores is therefore a must on any tour of the town. At that time, holding markets was one of the most important town privileges, which is still continued today with the "Green Market" on Wednesdays. The traditional market festival is always held on the 2nd weekend in August, when old trading and craft customs are recreated.
