Oil and pearl barley mill
Oil and pearl barley mill
The oil and pearl barley mill is located at the foot of the Mühlberg, below the Mühlburg. First mentioned in 1528, it is Thuringia's only surviving oil and pearl barley mill with a stamping and pressing plant. In 1738, the mill and part of the village were destroyed in a major fire. After its reconstruction, it continued to produce oil until 1918 and pearl barley until the 1950s. The 3.5 m diameter, 1.4 ton water wheel bears witness to the mill's former power. The Spring karst spring and the Weidbach stream also provided the power for the Gölitzenmühle (first mentioned in 1528), which can be visited on German Mill Day (Whit Monday).
