Ortlepp's Ruh
Ortlepp's Ruh
Ortlepp's Ruh is also known as Dr. Wagener-Bank. Both names have historical significance.
The bench, erected in 1930, commemorates the fate of the Protestant pastor Ortlepp, who worked in Oesterbehringen from 1884 to 1900. When his daughter was expecting an illegitimate child in 1897, she committed suicide.
The priest could not cope with this fate and sought solace here in the middle of untouched nature.
After the bench was destroyed over the course of time, friends of local history erected a new bench on the same spot in 1954 in honour of the Behringen doctor and local historian Dr. Hans Wagner (1879-1934).
