Parish church St. Veit Wünschendorf
Parish church St. Veit Wünschendorf
The oldest church in the Vogtland is more than 1,000 years old and combines the architectural styles of many eras.
Located in the Veitsberg district of Wünschendorf, the building dates back to a castle chapel from the year 974. Visitors to St. Veit today admire the late Gothic altar of the Virgin Mary, which was created around 1490, and the stained glass windows from the 12th century. Also noteworthy is a medieval stone relief depicting the patron saint of St. Vitus church. Since 1360, a wall tower from the ruined castle complex, which once adjoined the church, has served as the sacristy.
Due to several reconstructions up to the 17th century, St. Vitus today contains architectural evidence from many different stylistic periods. St. Vitus Church is a central part of the Bailiffs' Cultural Trail.
