Pferdingsleben with its approx. 400 inhabitants is located in the tranquil Nesse valley and is characterized by a good infrastructure and optimal transport links to the B7 federal highway. A well-developed municipal transport network provides connections in all directions. For many centuries, the village lived from agriculture and is still characterized by it today.
In its more than 1,500-year history (documented for 1,250 years), the village has survived turbulent times, economic prosperity through woad cultivation and effective agriculture on high-quality soil, but has also experienced the ravages of war and devastating fires.
The last remaining woad mill in Central Europe at its original location, one of the first mentions in the Hersfeld monastery's register of goods and the grape as an attribute of St. Wigbert, the church's patron saint, provided the basis for the municipality's coat of arms, which was approved in 1997.
Despite the turmoil of war and fires, history can still be felt and experienced today in many historic buildings (churches, old portals, half-timbered houses, etc.).
Mobile vending carts from the bakery and the butcher's shop of HAB GmbH Molschleben are available for residents. In the warmer months, the new "Waidcafe" invites you to linger.
Through the village renewal program of the Free State of Thuringia, the municipality has renovated community-owned buildings (restaurant, multi-purpose building, community and fire station) as buildings that characterize the village. They emphasize the individual village character and show the will to design and maintain a beautiful living environment.
In recent years, the expansion of municipal housing, especially for young families, the support of clubs in their work and the stabilization of the volunteer fire department have been on the agenda.
However, sport and leisure activities have also become increasingly important in the municipality. On the recently completed "Nesse Valley Cycle Path" (final section Pferdingsleben - Nottleben), the active enjoyment of cycling enthusiasts from near and far is steadily increasing. For cyclists, hikers and all nature lovers, 2 cozy shelters have been erected on the sports field adjacent to the Nessetal cycle path. For sports enthusiasts, there is also a sports field with a beach volleyball court and a basketball court. This was built as a joint effort (sports enthusiasts and the municipality).
The inhabitants contribute with much love and diligence to the preservation of their buildings and strive for a well-kept appearance of their hometown. The "Thüringer Waidmuseum Pferdingsleben", set up with the support of the municipality by the Kultur-Bund e.V. "Heimatverein Pferdingsleben", also invites visitors to take an interesting stroll through the history of the village and its hunting grounds.
