Horse head

The Pferdskopf is an 875 m high mountain in the Hessian Rhön, west of the Wasserkuppe and north of the Eube. If you climb it, the summit cross and a magnificent view into the distance await you.

Because of its sharp rocks and steep walls, it is known as the "wild" mountain of the Rhön and for this very reason it is very popular with nature and adventure lovers. The Pferdskopf is connected to the Wasserkuppe by a "geological nature trail". The landscape is characterized by volcanic rocks that run vertically through a landscape of visible steps made of red sandstone. The mountain has an unforested and rocky summit consisting of unique phonolite rock.

From the summit of the Pferdskopf with its bizarre rock formations, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the hilltop landscape of the Fuldaer Land. However, it is not easy to climb, but once you have made it, you will find a summit cross on the bizarre rock and further down there is a stone shelter overgrown with tufts of grass. The mountain is used for hang-gliding and paragliding.

It is located on the premium hiking trail Extra tour "Wasserkuppe".
