Rabenäußig

The village of Rabenäußig, which belongs to the municipality of Frankenblick, consists of four settlement areas: Hohetann, Fichtach, Melchersberg and Rabenäußig itself. Hohetann originated as a rough settlement and was first mentioned in a document in 1317 as "bi den hohen tannen". Rabenäußig is located in the western part of the village. It is first mentioned as "Rabenuwesez" in a feudal register of the Lords of Sonneberg from around 1275. There was a glassworks here in 1445. Today, Melchersberg forms the center. This settlement, founded on Rodeland in the late Middle Ages, is much younger than the other parts of the village. The inhabitants earned their living by working in the forest and picking marble stones. Later, more and more inhabitants turned to the manufacture of toys. The settlement of Fichtach is located directly below Melchersberg on the Fichtacher Berg. It was first mentioned in the 14th century as the property of the Banz monastery and as a fief of the Lords of Schaumberg. This highest part of our municipality is highly recommended for nature and hiking enthusiasts. From here, you can gaze far into Franconia and even see the Veste Coburg on a clear day.
