In the middle of the Rhön biosphere reserve and nature reserves, the 411-metre-high Rasdorfer Berg is located on the Hesse-Thuringia border. Nearby towns are Rasdorf, Buttlar and Geisa. 

History 

Prehistoric burial mounds were discovered south of the Rasdorfer Berg. 

Special features 

The Point Alpha memorial is located on Rasdorfer Berg. With its authentic and true-to-original buildings and facilities, this historic site is a reminder of the division of Germany and the horrors of the Cold War. The listed US base is located on Hessian soil. In an open-air area along the Green Belt, you can see authentic and reconstructed GDR border installations and the "Haus auf der Grenze" (House on the Border) on the Thuringian side, which was reopened in June 2003 and is an impressive testimony and place of learning about history. 

Point Alpha offers magnificent views of the Ulster Valley and the Hessian Kegelspiel. The immediate surroundings are ideal for hiking and exciting excursions. Point Alpha is a stop on an informative, 17 km long educational border trail, which leads past relics of the former border fortifications and razed farmsteads.
