The new town hall on the north side of Rudolstadt's market square was built in its current form in 1912, when the former, unadorned official building, which dated back to the 17th century, was given its striking tower structure and a Renaissance-style bay window as decoration. At the same time, an architecturally rich, light and functional interior design was implemented, which was largely retained during subsequent renovations and the refurbishment in 1992. The town hall itself and the outbuilding of the former hotel "Zum Löwen" house the town administration.
