Regional Museum Bad Frankenhausen
Regional Museum Bad Frankenhausen
The regional museum in Bad Frankenhausen in the former residential palace, which once belonged to the Schwarzburg family of counts, presents a varied exhibition on the regional cultural history and the special features of the flora, fauna and geology of the Kyffhäuser - starting with the geological development of the unique landscape, its first settlement through the Middle Ages with the decisive battle in the Peasants„ War to the emergence of the spa industry. For example, visitors learn that salt is inextricably linked to the history of Bad Frankenhausen. The salt works are first mentioned in a document from the year 998 - the salty springs thus determined the development of Frankenhausen early on, which became a rich town in the 16th century thanks to the valuable raw material. From the 19th century onwards, the town harnessed the healing powers of the brine springs and founded the spa industry. The regional museum tells the story of the “white gold" and much more.
