Remda is a district of Rudolstadt in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in Thuringia. The village was one of the three hamlets of the group settlement "tres villulae Remmidi" mentioned as early as the 8th century, which can be found in the property registers of the monasteries of Fulda and Hersfeld. Remda always formed the center. In the 12th and 13th centuries, Remda was surrounded by a wall measuring around 300 m square and a moat. Remains of this town fortification and three (two complete and one partial) of the former four corner towers of the town wall are still preserved.
