Remptendorf - a unified municipality covering an area of approx. 100 km² in the middle of the Thuringian Slate Mountains/Upper Saale Nature Park. The 4300 inhabitants live in a total of 14 districts. The birth of the unified municipality was on 01.07.1999. As a result of the municipal area reform in Thuringia, the former municipalities of Altengesees, Burglemnitz, Eliasbrunn, Gahma, Gleima, Liebengrün, Liebschütz, Rauschengesees, Remptendorf with Lückenmühle, Ruppersdorf, Thierbach, Thimmendorf and Weisbach were merged to form this new, larger municipality. Observant hikers can still discover the boundary stones from this long-gone era. The hiking trails in our densely wooded area also lead to some impressive vantage points with magnificent views over the mountains and valleys of the Slate Mountains. Many sights in the region reveal new insights or even secrets that were thought to have been forgotten.
