Blankensteiner Selbitzplatz, which belongs to the municipality of Rosenthal am Rennsteig, is no stranger to hikers: This is where Germany's oldest and most famous ridge trail, the Rennsteig, ends (or begins) and where more than 20 regional and national hiking trails meet. The square is called the „hub of hiking“ for good reason. The focal point of the approximately 700 square meter area is a 6 meter wide circle of natural stone slabs on which a sculpture has been erected, which, with its oversized letters in the shape of stelae, symbolizes the four premium hiking trails: R stands for Rennsteig, K for Kammweg, F for Frankenweg and G for Fränkischer Gebirgsweg. Another eye-catcher is the walk-in play object in the shape of a hiking boot with an integrated slide. This unique piece was specially developed for the Rennsteig. Young hikers can enjoy the numerous climbing and play options inside and out. Behind the large hiking boot on the Selbitzplatz, a rest area with hammocks invites you to relax.
