The Rennsteiggrotte is a natural refuge. A rocky outcrop about 100 meters off the Rennsteig Trail makes it an ideal viewing and resting place, even in bad weather. There is room for up to four people under the stone porch. The Rennsteig grotto also offers very good protection from the wind.

The inconspicuous natural rock overhang is slightly hidden but a short detour from the rennsteig trail. The grotto offers a sheltered viewing and resting place for hikers, especially in bad weather.

The Rennsteig Grotto can be reached via various hiking trails, including the Rennsteig Ladder, the Luther Trail and the Pummpälz Trail.
